On Tuesday, security forces neutralized two terrorists as an ongoing encounter resumed in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor region.
Security Forces Neutralize Three Terrorists in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir
In a significant operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Akhnoor region, security forces neutralized two terrorists on Tuesday, bringing the total number of terrorists killed since Monday’s operation to three. The ongoing encounter, which resumed on Tuesday morning, centered around a village in Akhnoor, as forces prepared for a final assault to eliminate the remaining militants.
The firefight began when the terrorists launched an attack on an Army ambulance that was part of a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday morning. One terrorist was neutralized that evening, marking the beginning of a joint operation involving special forces and National Security Guard (NSG) commandos.
Terrorists Hide Near Assan Temple, Encounter Intensifies
The terrorists were believed to have taken refuge near the Assan temple in Jogwan village, located in Khour. The operation intensified on Tuesday morning, with multiple explosions and heavy gunfire ringing out as security forces closed in on the hiding militants. Tragically, during the operation, Phantom, a four-year-old Army dog, was killed by a bullet. Phantom had been aiding the troops in locating the militants.
In response to the escalating situation, the Indian Army deployed four BMP-II infantry combat vehicles for enhanced surveillance and to reinforce the cordon around the area. Helicopter support was also used to assist in locating the terrorists, who had retreated into nearby forests.
Terrorists Infiltrate from Across the Border
The three terrorists involved in the attack are believed to have infiltrated from across the border the previous night. At approximately 6:30 AM on Monday, they opened fire on the Army convoy, specifically targeting the ambulance. After a brief exchange of fire, the terrorists retreated into the forest area. Intelligence operations, including surveillance, led security forces to the militants’ hiding spot in a basement.
Following the operation, the body of one terrorist was recovered, and two others were neutralized in the renewed clash. Authorities are currently identifying the terrorists and investigating their motives and affiliations.
Recent Surge in Terror Attacks in Jammu and Kashmir
This encounter follows a disturbing surge in terrorist activities in the region, highlighting ongoing security challenges. Just last week, two soldiers and two civilians were killed in an ambush on army vehicles in Baramulla. Furthermore, a local doctor and six non-local laborers lost their lives when terrorists attacked a construction site in Ganderbal’s Gagangir area.
In response to these tragic events, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the attacks and vowed that every innocent life lost would be avenged. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing security measures in the region and punishing those responsible for these heinous acts.
Strengthened Security Measures and Ongoing Operations
The recent wave of terrorist violence has prompted authorities to step up security measures across Jammu and Kashmir. In addition to military operations like the one in Akhnoor, the Indian Army has bolstered its presence in high-risk areas and is conducting thorough surveillance to prevent further infiltration attempts.
Authorities are also working on improving intelligence-gathering and coordination between various security agencies to thwart future attacks. As the security situation continues to evolve, Jammu and Kashmir remains a critical area of focus for India’s counterterrorism efforts.
