In a shocking incident, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan stationed in Manipur opened fire on his colleagues, killing two and injuring eight others before turning the weapon on himself.
The shooting occurred around 8 PM on Thursday at a CRPF camp in Lamsang, Imphal West district. The accused jawan belonged to the F-120 company of the paramilitary force, officials confirmed.
According to Manipur Police, the attack unfolded inside the camp when the jawan suddenly fired at his fellow personnel. Two died on the spot, while eight others sustained injuries and were rushed for medical treatment. Soon after, the jawan took his own life using his service weapon.
Senior officials from both the CRPF and Manipur Police quickly reached the scene as an investigation was launched to determine the motive behind the fratricidal attack.
The CRPF has yet to release an official statement regarding the tragic event.
