A shocking viral video emerged on Wednesday, showing Vignesh, the man who attacked prominent oncologist Dr. Balaji Jagannathan at Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Guindy, Chennai, calmly walking away after the assault. The video reveals Vignesh calmly retrieving the knife, wiping it clean, and concealing it before nonchalantly walking away from the scene.

Dr. Jagannathan was reportedly stabbed multiple times—seven in total—by Vignesh, who was reportedly enraged over the care his mother had received from the doctor. In the video, Vignesh is seen attempting to leave the hospital, as voices in the background shout, “He cut him,” and security personnel rush to apprehend him. A bystander attempts to strike Vignesh but is stopped by a woman in the crowd.

Vignesh was later apprehended and arrested by the police. He was subsequently presented before the Saidapet Court Magistrate and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. It is believed that Vignesh was upset with Dr. Jagannathan over suspicions that the doctor had prescribed the wrong medication to his mother, sparking his violent reaction.

Dr. Jagannathan, who sustained multiple injuries to his neck, chest, stomach, and back, is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Chief Minister MK Stalin condemned the attack, emphasizing that such acts of violence would not be tolerated and promising a thorough investigation into the matter.

In response to the attack, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan voiced their concerns about the safety of healthcare professionals. Both called for stronger protections for doctors to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
