A disturbing viral video surfaced on Wednesday showing Vignesh, the man who attacked renowned oncologist Dr. Balaji Jagannathan at Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Guindy, Chennai, calmly walking away after the crime. The footage captures Vignesh discreetly retrieving the knife, wiping it clean, and concealing it before walking away from the scene.
Dr. Jagannathan was reportedly stabbed seven times by Vignesh, who was reportedly upset over the treatment his mother received from the doctor. After the attack, Vignesh is seen in the video attempting to leave, while voices in the background exclaim, “He cut him,” and security personnel try to apprehend him. A bystander even attempts to strike him before being stopped by a woman.
Vignesh was eventually caught and arrested by the police. He was later presented before the Saidapet Court Magistrate and remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. Reports suggest that Vignesh suspected the doctor of prescribing incorrect medication to his mother, which led to the violent outburst.
Dr. Jagannathan, who suffered wounds to his neck, chest, stomach, and back, is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. Chief Minister MK Stalin condemned the attack and assured that such incidents would not be tolerated, directing an investigation into the case.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan also voiced concerns about the safety of medical professionals, urging stronger protections for doctors in the wake of this alarming incident.
