A 36-year-old tech professional was detained in Maharashtra’s Satara after admitting to killing his wife in Bengaluru, stuffing her body in a suitcase, and allegedly attempting suicide by ingesting pesticides, police said on Friday.
According to Inspector Yashwant Nalavade, the suspect, Rakesh Khedekar, confessed after being taken to a hospital when he collapsed on his way to Mumbai. Authorities stated that Khedekar had stopped his car due to dizziness on Thursday before exiting and losing consciousness.
Investigators believe he consumed pesticides in an apparent suicide attempt. His condition was stabilized with prompt medical attention, and he was later transferred to Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital for further treatment. Karnataka Police confirmed he was the prime suspect in the murder case.
On Thursday, police discovered the body of his 32-year-old wife, Gauri, inside a suitcase at their Bengaluru residence. The couple had been married for two years.
Officials stated that Khedekar fled Bengaluru for Mumbai on Tuesday after the crime. He later called his landlord and confessed to the murder, leading to his detention.
