Hyderabad : The Andhra Pradesh government, led by N. Chandrababu Naidu, has initiated a large-scale crackdown on social media content targeting political leaders and their families. Police have registered 100 cases, made 39 arrests, and issued 67 notices for posts allegedly promoting conflict among groups.

Several posts target Chief Minister Naidu’s wife Bhuvaneshwari, his son and minister Lokesh’s wife Brahmini, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s daughters, and state Congress chief YS Sharmila. Naidu has urged his party members to respond to these provocative posts with restraint.

The opposition, YSRCP led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, claims its activists have received 650 notices, with 147 cases filed and 49 arrests made in just one week. Reddy criticized the ruling TDP, accusing it of failing to fulfill pre-election promises, and argued that his party members will continue posting about the government’s shortcomings.

In a related development, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been summoned by Andhra Pradesh Police after sharing morphed images of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister on social media. Varma has been asked to appear before investigators next week and has confirmed he will cooperate. The case was filed after a complaint claimed that Varma’s posts defamed the Chief Minister and his family.
