A law student in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, was gang-raped by four men, including her boyfriend, earlier this year. The group also blackmailed her with intimate videos. All the accused have been arrested, according to the police.

The victim, severely traumatized by the assault, attempted suicide but was saved by her father. A case was registered under various sections of the IPC and the IT Act, including Section 67(A).

Visakhapatnam Police Commissioner Shanka Brata Bagchi identified the accused as the woman’s boyfriend, Vamsi, and his three friends. The two had been in a relationship for over a year. On August 13, 2024, Vamsi took the student to his friend’s room in Krishna Nagar, Visakhapatnam, where she was sexually assaulted. One of the accused recorded the assault on video.

Following the assault, Vamsi and the others threatened the victim with the videos, coercing her into further sexual abuse.

On November 18, devastated by the ordeal, the victim attempted suicide but was rescued by her father. She later shared the details of the incident with her family, prompting them to file a police complaint.

The four men were arrested on Tuesday.

The YSRCP condemned the TDP government in Andhra Pradesh, criticizing their handling of the case and highlighting the ongoing issues of violence against women. The party expressed their concern over the rising number of such incidents under the current administration.
