Elon Musk’s electric vehicle (EV) giant Tesla Inc. has initiated recruitment efforts in India, a clear sign of its plans to establish a presence in the country, according to a Bloomberg report.
This move comes after Musk’s recent discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the U.S., where Tesla’s potential entry into the Indian market was reportedly on the agenda.
The company has advertised 13 job openings on LinkedIn, spanning customer service and operational roles. Positions include ‘Tesla Advisor,’ ‘Inside Sales Advisor,’ ‘Customer Support Specialist,’ ‘Consumer Engagement Manager,’ ‘Order Operations Specialist,’ ‘Service Manager,’ ‘Business Operations Analyst,’ ‘Store Manager,’ ‘Parts Advisor,’ ‘Service Advisor,’ ‘Delivery Operations Specialist,’ and ‘Customer Support Supervisor.’
Several positions, including service technician and advisory roles, are available in Mumbai and Delhi, while others, such as customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist, are specifically for Mumbai.
Tesla’s renewed focus on India aligns with the country’s recent decision to lower import duties on high-end EVs priced above $40,000, reducing them from 110% to 70%. Previously, high tariffs had been a major deterrent to Tesla’s entry into the Indian market.
While India’s EV sector is still developing—selling only 100,000 electric cars last year compared to China’s 11 million—it presents a promising opportunity for Tesla, particularly as the company faces its first annual decline in global sales in over a decade.
Musk’s business ventures continue to intertwine with global politics. Recently, Italy confirmed negotiations with Musk’s SpaceX for a secure satellite-based telecommunications deal following Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
