The sudden mass layoffs have not only left employees devastated but also raised serious concerns about job security in India’s IT sector. Many of these freshers had relocated to Mysuru, paying for housing and other expenses in anticipation of a long-term career at Infosys. Now, with no severance package and little warning, they are being forced to return home and start their job search from scratch.

Industry experts have criticized the move, highlighting the ethical responsibility of large corporations toward their employees. “Companies like Infosys have a duty to nurture fresh talent rather than discarding them after a few months,” said an HR consultant familiar with the matter. “This kind of abrupt termination not only damages employee morale but also shakes confidence in the overall IT hiring process.”

The issue has also caught the attention of political and labor organizations, with some calling for government intervention. NITES has urged authorities to investigate Infosys’ actions, arguing that such mass layoffs without due process could violate labor laws. “We demand transparency from Infosys and proper compensation for the affected employees,” Saluja emphasized.

Amid the controversy, Infosys has yet to issue an official statement clarifying the reason behind the layoffs. However, industry insiders speculate that cost-cutting measures, declining client demand, and automation initiatives could be major factors. If this trend continues, fresh graduates entering the IT job market may face even tougher competition and uncertain prospects.

For now, the affected employees are left hoping for better opportunities, while the broader debate on corporate accountability and ethical hiring practices intensifies.
