India Government Shifts Timing for Quarterly GDP Data Release to 4:00 PM IST
The Government of India has announced a new release time for its quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates, which will now be issued at 4:00 PM IST, starting Friday. This change comes after the government decided to adjust the timing from the previous 5:30 PM, aligning better with the closing hours of India’s major financial markets.
This move aims to prevent any disruption to active market trading, allowing the GDP data release to occur before the markets close for the day. Along with GDP estimates, other key economic figures such as inflation and Index of Industrial Production (IIP) data will also be released at this new time.
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) typically publishes GDP estimates on the final day of each quarter. In its announcement, the government highlighted that this new timing reflects MoSPI’s commitment to enhancing transparency and improving access to economic data.
The next set of GDP estimates, covering the second quarter (July-September) of the financial year 2024-25, will be released on November 29, 2024, at the newly scheduled time of 4:00 PM IST.
